Instead, full English cooked breakfast or apple on the sly ? The followers of the latter have every interest to devote time to the first meal of the day. Because such a move is associated with an increased risk of atherosclerosis, according to a study published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology. The small eaters are also concerned.
These results are based on the follow-up of 4 000 inhabitants of Madrid (Spain), interviewed about their habits of life. Only a minority of them adopted good habits, devoting a major portion of their daily intake in the morning meal. Most of seven volunteers in ten eat little or not at all.
Healthy
Compared to the appetite of a sparrow, the followers of hearty breakfast fare better. Those who skip breakfast are 55 % more prone to atherosclerosis, which doesn’t touch the coronary arteries. The risk of a generalized form is, to him, multiplied by 2.5.
The danger of such affection is real. Atherosclerosis is characterized by the formation of atherosclerotic plaques in the walls of arteries. It narrows, reducing the blood flow. The plates can also come off and cause an infarction, thrombosis or STROKE.
This probability is particularly high that people who skip breakfast are more cardiovascular risk factors. Conversely, those who eat in the morning are less often overweight, have high blood pressure, more correct. Their blood is also less responsible of lipids and glucose. “The people who skip regular breakfast, have a way of life little bit healthy, overall,” says Valentin Fuster, co-author of the study in a press release.
