Arrested by the Unité permanente anticorruption (UPAC) and then washed of all charges against him, Gilles Pepin has decided to run again the town hall of Saint-Constant, Montérégie.

He faces the outgoing mayor, Jean-Claude Boyer, who is seeking a second term.

Mr. Pepin had been arrested in 2013 by the UPAC.

To the surprise of many, the Crown had announced in 2015 that it withdrew 18 counts of conspiracy, fraud and breach of trust brought against five men, including Gilles Pepin.

In an interview with TVA News, he pointed out that the reliability of one or more witnesses to the Director of criminal and penal prosecutions (DPCP) had been seriously compromised in this case.

Mr. Pepin has admitted that this episode had been experiencing on a personal level, both for him and for his family.

He was said to have turned the page and abandoned its intentions to continue with the UPAC.

It is therefore at the town hall in Saint-Constant such as self-employed with eight other candidates who wish to fill the positions of municipal councilors.

He wants to prevent the start-up of many projects of mayor Boyer, who, according to him, could explode the tax accounts of taxpayers.
