Train derailment: cars removed from the water

LAVAL | The four cars that had fallen on the banks of the river of the Thousand Islands have been recovered and transported Saturday near the scene of the train derailment that occurred Thursday.

A lot of work has been done since the train derailment occurred on the bridge that spans the river of the Thousand Islands, between Laval and Terrebonne. The operation that seeks to recover cars from their unfortunate position continued Saturday.

There remains, however, always a car on the bridge which is impossible to tow for the moment, since the structure of the bridge has been damaged. Engineers need to assess the damage to the structure, and then determine how to proceed to move the wagon.

The traffic lane on the side of Laval, which runs along the river was opened to traffic in the afternoon.

The railway may be closed for a period of at least two weeks, according to the work.

A breakdown of equipment would be at the origin of the derailment of a convoy of goods 105 cars. Seven derailed on the bridge and four of them were found on the banks of the river.

The accident, which has no injuries, occurred on the side of Laval, a few metres from the boulevard des Mille-Îles, a little to the east of the road bridge route 125.

The damage from the accident amounted to $ 5 million, which includes the damages suffered by the wagons and the rail infrastructure.
