TORONTO – The trade Union of employees of the Ontario public service (OPSEU), which has over 12,000 members in collegial institutions public in Ontario, announced on Sunday night that a general strike would be triggered from Monday.
Among the members, there are teachers, instructors, counsellors and librarians.
These are 24 colleges in the public sector, including The Cité collégiale of Ottawa, which will be affected by the outbreak of the strike.
“On 14 October, we presented to the Council a provides simplified, which contained what the school staff considers to be the bare minimum in order to provide a quality education to the students and to deal fairly with the school staff contract,” said JP Hornick, chair of the union team negotiating.
“The Commission has unfortunately refused to accept our proposals, which have no impact on costs, such as contracts of longer duration to the school staff for contract and academic freedom”, she added
“I nevertheless encouraged the colleges to return to the bargaining table so that we can find an agreement quickly, for the good of the students and school staff,” added JP Hornick.
