Police officers and special constables will no longer be able to wear pants of a clown, the draft law forcing them to wear their uniform to have been adopted by the national Assembly on Thursday.

“It’s going to be the end of an era. We made changes”, welcomed the minister of public Safety Martin Coiteux, who filed last April, the piece of legislation to combat this means of pressure used by several police forces during labor disputes. All parties have positioned themselves in favour of the bill, with the exception of Québec solidaire.

As soon as his punishment, police officers and special constables will not be able to alter their uniform. Fines of $ 500 to $ 3000 are provided for anyone who would violate the law.

This legislation has been criticised by the agents, who do not have the right to strike. According to them, the draft law addresses as well a violation of their fundamental rights. The minister Coiteux rétorquait that the unions have other means to express their disagreement, without naming which ones.

The legislative abolishes also the double employment at the executive level of all bodies of police, to ensure that they are able to fully assume their functions.
