TERREBONNE | beverages Blue Spike, including the drink Four Loko, which is very popular among young people, are the subject of a recall because they contain ethyl alcohol rather than the alcohol produced from the fermentation of malt, has informed the company Bottling Solar on Wednesday.

“The use of ethyl alcohol is not in conformity with the regulation providing that only beer, cider, wine or craft products could be marketed in grocery retailers,” said the company, which stresses that the substitution of these ingredients has no effect on the alcohol content or the quality of the products.

“In order to comply with this regulation, the banners and food distributors have already been notified of the recall and a notice will be sent to all food retailers in the coming hours,” added the company.

The following products are especially concerned: Baron, Mojo, Octane, fruit drinks Seagram’s and Four Loko.

Note that this last product is a fruity drink with a 11.9 % alcohol in the heart of a controversy since many of the hospitalized cases were listed, including the Saguenay, where three students came to the emergency at the beginning of September.

In the United States, the product is nicknamed “blackout in a can” (loss of consciousness in the bobbin).
