Torontonians will have six new subway stations from Sunday

TORONTO | the users of The metro of Toronto will benefit from six new stations from Sunday.

These new stations were added to line number 1 of the subway in the toronto area, in the north of Downsview station (whose name was changed to Sheppard West).

The extension of a length of 8.6 km will connect now the city of Toronto to Vaughan. Three of the new stations are located in the territory of the region of York. One of these will serve, in particular the University of York. The students of this university will be among the biggest beneficiaries of the extension.

This is the first time that the services of the TTC (Toronto transit Commission) cross the boundaries of the city of Toronto.

You can read on the website of the CTT as the project of the construction of these new stations cost of 3.18 billion $, and was funded by the federal government (697 million $) and provincial (974 $ million), even as by the City of Toronto ($904 million) and the regional Municipality of York (604 million dollars).

The extension of the line number 1, also called the Toronto-York Spadina, was originally intended to enter service in 2015, but the project was delayed, in particular because of disputes with contractors.

The prime minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau, and the premier of Ontario, Kathleen Wynne, Toronto mayor, John Tory, president and ceo of York region, Wayne Emmerson, and the chair of the TTC, Josh Colle, on Friday announced the end of the work of the extension of the line.

This Sunday, on the occasion of the opening of new stations, access to the network of the TTC will be free of charge.
