A whole family of Lévis will fly to the west of the country to attend the trial of the individual accused of the murder of Raphaël Bussières, suffering from a stab in Victoria last year.

After two expensive travels in British Columbia, the mother of the victim will rise again throughout the week at the tribunal with her husband and three daughters.

The only travel by plane requires an expenditure of more than $ 5000 for the loved ones who may need to return in 2018 if the trial scheduled for five days is not completed on the 22nd December. Three other members of the extended family will accompany them.

A year later

“We need to meet with the prosecutor on Sunday and I presume that it will be able to tell us what he is planning,” explains Stéphanie Lachance.

A year after the tragedy that occurred on November 26, 2016, the latter is expected to live a week hard with a lot of emotions.

The suspect, Justin Michael David Card, 27 years old, has been accused of murder not premeditated. The latter was dragging a heavy past justice for crimes, often violent.

“My girls do not want to stay at home and be excluded. The oldest is the punishment and it is upset of what happened. The 10-year-old realizes she will never be his brother. It is heavy, and also financially, ” says Ms. Lachance, who has received only a help to 5000 $ the British Columbia for the funeral and the repatriation of the body. Another amount of $ 3000 may be awarded by the government for their trips.

“I have not yet managed to spend a night without thinking about it. I have already lost another child and the mourning process, I knew him. It is even more difficult this time because I saw injustice every day. It is very painful, but it is necessary that the trial is done, ” says the mother.

For the family, the worst case scenario would be a conviction for manslaughter with a reduced sentence.
