Collective agreement: the blue collar workers of Laval say yes to the proposal of the City

LAVAL blue-collar workers of Laval have accepted by vote the tentative agreement reached between their union representatives and the City to renew their collective agreement, said the administration of mayor Marc Demers, Sunday.

An agreement in principle had been reached a few days ago, but it had not been announced publicly. Union members voted favorably, in a proportion of 85 %, Saturday, after having taken knowledge of special general meeting.

“We are pleased that the negotiation process was successful. The parties have been able to deploy the necessary efforts in order to reach an agreement on the favourable that will be valid until 2022. The City has always remained focused on the importance of improving the level of service to Residents, while respecting their ability to pay”, said the mayor Demers by press release on Sunday.

The City has clarified that the details of the agreement will not be released when the new work contract will be formalized by the signature of Mr. Demers and the president of the union, Martin Gagnon. The union also indicated on Sunday that he would not comment on the situation before the formal ratification of the agreement scheduled over the next few days.

The some 700 blue-collar workers of Laval were without a work contract since January 2016. Last October, they voted in a proportion of 95% for a strike mandate that they have made in the course of two weekends in late October and early November.
