THREE-RIVERS | Twist in the fiscal crisis in Trois-Rivières: the city council is convened in a special meeting Thursday to discuss and vote changes to the fiscal forecast in 2018, based on the demands expressed by the group of eight councillors opponents.
The administration of mayor Yves Lévesque has therefore decided not to wait until mid-January to put the budget process back on track.
If there is an agreement-in-principle, final approval should take place during another session. Because of the statutory time, this session could be held on the eve of the Day of the year.
“There is a way to arrive at a consensus, said the mayor. Following the meeting I had with my people, if everyone is in agreement, there is a way to arrive at a consensus interesting and which will satisfy the majority if not all the members of the board.”
The first version of the budget had been rejected by eight votes to six. The opponents have presented their request in seven points, including an investment of $1.5 million over three years to improve the cycling network of the city.
“I am sad to see that he had to go through this procedure to achieve our purpose and this purpose quite constructive,” said the new councillor Pierre Montreuil.
