The treatment to lower the blood pressure is generally associated with a reduction in the risk of death and cardiovascular disease if, and only if, the systolic blood pressure initial is 140 mm Hg or more.
A new analysis, include 74 trials and more than 300 000 patients, has confirmed this assumption. Below 140 mm Hg, the treatment effect is neutral in trials in primary prevention. There is, however, a possible benefit on cardiovascular events non-fatal trials in patients suffering from coronary artery disease associated.
The systolic blood pressure of 140 mm Hg or greater should be treated to prevent death and cardiovascular disease.

Effective in case of blood pressure more than 140 mm Hg

High blood pressure is the risk factor the more important of death and cardiovascular disease in the world. It is within this framework that the researchers wanted to evaluate the association between lowering blood pressure and deaths related to cardiovascular diseases.
In the end, the lowering of blood pressure in primary prevention, that is to say, when there was not yet a disease, was associated with a reduction in the risk of death and cardiovascular disease if the systolic blood pressure of 140 mm Hg.

To blood pressure levels lower, the treatment is not associated with any benefit in primary prevention, but could provide additional protection in patients with coronary artery disease (secondary prevention).
