The driver of a loader to snow and his vehicle ended up in the water in Pointe-Claire, west of Montreal, Saturday, after having slipped into a boat ramp ice.
The incident occurred at about 17: 40 in the parking lot of the park, Alexandre-Gaudreau, on the edge of lake Saint-Louis. The employee was attempting to clear the boat ramp where it had accumulated a lot of snow these last few days.
After having bathed in the icy water of the lake Saint-Louis, the blue-collar was able to climb on the roof of the vehicle where he was rescued by firefighters with a ladder a retractable.
The employee was transported to the hospital as a precautionary measure, but was not afraid for his health on Saturday night.
Despite the risks that can represent such an operation, the descent must be cleared of snow, ” says a spokesperson for the City of Pointe-Claire, Marie-Pier Paquette-Séguin.
“There may be a rescue operation on the water at any time, it is for this reason that the descent must be passable “, she explained.
The charger snow was still in the water Saturday evening as the authorities have preferred to wait until the wind decreases to allow divers to go under the vehicle in a safe manner.
They may be required to attach chains under the wheels of the truck to get out of the water, believes Ms. Paquette-Séguin.
The City of Pointe-Claire alerted the Emergency Environment of the situation as it is his duty, but it was impossible to know Saturday night if an intervention on their part would be necessary.
