PUBNICO HEAD, Nova Scotia – The fire that caused the death of four children in the night from Saturday to Sunday at Pubnico Head, west of Nova Scotia, is not of criminal origin, said the royal Canadian mounted police (RCMP) on Monday.

Therefore, “the investigation has been entrusted to the Service of the medical examiner of Nova Scotia pursuant to the Fatality Investigations Act of Nova Scotia,” said the RCMP in a press release.

“It is a terrible tragedy, and the RCMP sends its most sincere condolences to the family members of the victims and to the community of Yarmouth. There are no words to describe this loss,” added the spokesperson Jennifer Clarke.

Sunday, shortly after midnight, a fire having taken birth in a residence in the small community has left four dead. Various media have reported, based on testimonies of members of the community, that the victims are four young children. According to the “Chronicle Herald”, the oldest of them was only seven years old.

In addition, two adults, a man and a woman, managed to escape the blaze. The man was still in the hospital where he was battling for his life, on Monday, reported the daily newspaper of Halifax.
