A man, 62-year-old has been arrested after stealing seven turkeys, and eight pizzas for people in need in a community centre in sector Rupert, The Fishing in the Outaouais region.
The man known to the police is presented in the middle of the afternoon, on 9 December at the institution to commit the theft, so that the place was crowded.
The police do not know how he has managed to leave the place with all its loot, but they suspect that he was helped by accomplices.
“A witness who found that the man was in a special way was taken in photo, which is one of the elements that have allowed to identify it. Many other things pointed to him, ” says sergeant Martin Fournel, publicist at the service of public Safety of the MRC des Collines-de-l’outaouais.
Christmas baskets
According to the spokesperson, the theft has shocked people in the area because the food that was stolen was intended to feed people in need in time for the Holidays.
“It was turkeys frozen and the frozen pizza to fill Christmas baskets. People of the community have therefore decided to put together to be able to pay for the missing items. At least, no one has borne the brunt of this theft, ” said Fournel.
The value of the turkeys and pizzas amounted to about $ 200, according to the police service.
Excavation of freezers
The police officers proceeded to arrest the man at his home on 23 December.
They even searched his freezer in the hope of finding the loot, but the officers have not found the slightest trace.
“The freezers of the alleged accomplices have also been inspected, without success,” says Martin Fournel. The folder is not closed and additional charges or arrests may be coming. “
Accused of theft, the man was released after his arrest on a promise to appear in court on 23 march. It will be a few conditions to be met, including the one not to be left at the community centre where the theft was committed.
