ROUYN-NORANDA | The Centre intégré de santé de l’abitibi-Témiscamingue is in need of fifty of the nurses in order to discontinue the use of the extra time.

The CISSSAT recognizes that there has been more mandatory overtime for nurses in the last few months, but this is not a practice that is desirable.

The Newspaper exhibited Monday in the case of Anik Henri, a nurse Rouyn-Noranda who is said to have resigned because she was exhausted of seeing several of his colleagues to do shifts for 16 hours and that was dangerous for patients.

“The extra time required is not what you want. This is an exception. Less than 1% of the hours worked are in mandatory overtime,” said yesterday the president deputy director general for the CISSSAT, Caroline Roy.

It asserts that there has never been a danger to the customers of the health Centre as there is a control of the quality and safety of care that is in place.

In the déparement surgery where worked Anik Henri, he was still missing yesterday 20 nurses on 57.

Shortage of manpower

The Abitibi-Témiscamingue region is coping with a severe shortage of manpower, and it is reflected up to the hospital.

According to Ms. Roy, there is a lack of fifty nurses to fill these needs. So sometimes when a nurse informs at the last minute that she cannot come to work, the institution does not have the choice of resorting to the mandatory overtime.

According to Ms Roy, several solutions are looked on with the trade unions, which have more positions full-time rather than part-time work.

“This would allow us to fill the hours with the same number of individuals,” said Ms. Roy.
