SAINT-CLEMENT | Discouraged after seeing several metres of snow accumulate in front of his residence last weekend, a couple of the Bas-Saint-Laurent, armed with shovels and has literally dug a tunnel out of his house at Saint-Clément, in the south-east of Rivière-du-Loup.

The position of their house, the fact that it is elevated and found a field in the backyard brings each winter the formation of an impressive snow bank in front of the residence of Eric Blanchard and Patricia Messier when there is a snowfall. “Just to tell you, you can see the grass behind the house. All the snow picks up in front,” says Eric Blanchard.

It is estimated that more than 50 centimetres of snow fell Saturday and Sunday on Saint-Clement, with gusts of over 100 km/h. “on Sunday, it was discouraged to see the snow bank and my wife had the idea to make a tunnel. At the beginning, I thought not. I started shoveling [then] I’m discouraged, and I was made to think, to condemn this output. Finally, she continued to shovel for four hours and she managed to make a tunnel. We couldn’t believe it,” he says.

The couple added lighting to the inside of the tunnel. “It’s actually really nice, in the evening. This is not so thick that it, above. It is prudent, of course, it does not remain in the tunnel”, he says.

According to him, such heavy snow so early in the season are exceptional. “The déneigeurs who have experience, here, at Saint-Clement, don’t recall having ever seen it,” said Mr. Blanchard, who is also the mayor of the village.
