The mayor of Montréal’s Valérie Plante has not the intention to amend the budget of Montreal, in spite of the grumbling of the related cities, which will increase their contribution by an average of 5.3 %.

“I’m going to sit down with the cities related to reflect and see where are the irritants, but at this time, there will be no revision of the budget,” said Valerie Plant on Monday in a media scrum.

The mayor will meet with representatives of the 15 cities in related after the next agglomeration council, which will take place on 25 January. The budget should be adopted at this session.

By then, Ms. Plant has mandated the director-general of the Ville de Montréal, Alain Marcoux, in order to have discussions with representatives of each related municipality.

“It was necessary to fill requirements. The City of Montreal also pick up a portion of the bills of the town. It is related to the public safety, fire, police, water infrastructure. There is also the issue of the collective agreements that are part of the new data,” explained the mayor.

The cities in anger

The cities involved are said to receive the increase in their quota shares as a “slap” and asked Friday to the mayor to review his budget.

Some cities, such as Mont-Royal and Montreal-West, will suffer a rise of at least 9 %. The contribution of Montreal increases its side of 6.8 %. Only the City of Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue receives a decrease of 7.4 %.
