OTTAWA – The federal government on Tuesday launched the first phase of the initiative, youth Services Canada, which will among other things finance the recovery of the Katimavik program.

The prime minister Justin Trudeau has confirmed the re-launching of the program, cut in 2012 by the conservatives, in a video posted on Instagram. It was a campaign promise of the liberals.

The volunteer program was created in 1977 allowed young people of 17 to 21 years of age to travel and work in the country, while deepening his knowledge of the official languages. It will be accessible in 2018 and is now open to young people from 18 to 25 years.

It is under the government of Pierre Elliot Trudeau, father of Justin Trudeau, that Katimavik had seen the light of day. The organization of the same name which manages the program is part of the ten partners that will receive funding through youth Services Canada.

This new initiative will be fully operational in 2019. In a first time, the federal government will lead on the new web site of Service Canada youth consultation with young people in order to know their expectations, their interests and their motivations.

The initiative was launched by the prime minister Justin Trudeau, who also serves as the Youth minister of his government. “Young people should have more opportunities to be of service to their community, while gaining skills and valuable experience. It is the purpose of youth Service Canada”,-he said in a press release.

Futures, youth Services Canada will enable young people to find volunteering opportunities and help citizens and organizations to fund projects at the national, regional and local.

Amounts ranging from $ 250, $ 750 or $ 1,500 will be particularly available to some 4,000 young people aged 15 to 30, thanks to a partnership with the organization TakingITGlobal.

Youth services Canada will have a budget of $ 105 million until march 2021.
