TORONTO | Bruce McArthur, a Toronto-based 66-year-old, introduced as a suspected serial killer, appeared briefly Friday morning in the aftermath of his arrest for the murders of two gay men who had been reported missing last year.
McArthur is accused of murder in the first degree of Selim Esen, and Andrew Kinsman. According to the first indictment, the suspect would have killed Selim Esen on or about April 16, 2017. The second head indicates that it would have killed Andrew Kinsman two months later, on the 26th of June.
McArthur is back behind bars after his court appearance and will appear again on 14 February, this time by videoconference.
Investigators in the Prism Project of the Toronto police service responsible for investigating a series of disappearances in the gay village of the Queen City have indicated to journalists that they expect McArthur to be accused of other murders.
“We have evidence that leads us to believe that there are other victims, but we are not in a position to identify these victims based on the evidence we have. It is a work in progress,” said the sergeant Hank Idsinga of Toronto police.
According to the “Toronto Sun”, during a search warrant at the apartment of the suspect, the police would have discovered evidence related to each of MESSRS. Esen and Kinsman, as well as two other victims not yet identified.
According to a source of the “Toronto Sun”, McArthur, a landscaper, was under surveillance for some time prior to his arrest Thursday.
Members of the community LGBTQ Toronto moved Friday morning to attend to the appearance of McArthur to see it in person. The arrest of the man has brought relief to some of them, but has also sparked anger at the police, who, according to them, was not taken seriously earlier to their fear that a serial killer was aimed.
