The merger of Québec solidaire and Option nationale will create a first confrontation in the riding of Taschereau, while the ex-candidate, Catherine Dorion, and the solidarity Marie-Ève Duchesne wish both to represent the region in the next elections.

QS launched on Monday the opening of nominations for the swearing-in Taschereau. Marie-Ève Duchesne, who has represented SQ at the general elections in 2014, and Catherine Dorion, who had called for IT in the election of 2012 and 2014, have quickly announced their intention to run in the race.

The co-spokesperson for QS sees a “very good eye” the arrival of these two applicants “very solid” for the investiture in Taschereau.

“For me, this is not a shock. I think it is a good news to see so much interest to run for Québec solidaire in the Quebec city region “, meant Gabriel Nadeau-Dubois.

And this, even if, in the end, one of these two candidates will escape the training.

“This is democracy. This is Marie-Eve or Catherine, we would have a very strong application in Taschereau. And that’s the good news, ” says Mr Nadeau-Dubois, who has not heard of any other interested persons to wear the colours of QS in this county at the present time.

    Fertile ground

The riding of Taschereau is a fertile ground for QS. In 2014, Marie-Eve Duchesne had collected 15,29 % of the votes, which is located in the fourth row, just behind the Coalition Avenir Québec (16,32 %), the liberal Party (30.4 %) and the Parti québécois (31,66 %). Catherine Dorion, had finished fifth, with 4,21% of the vote.

“It is one of the few ridings outside of Montreal, where QS is likely quite reasonable to take it. We are going to do a big campaign in Taschereau, ” says Mr Nadeau-Dubois. The departure of the mp for pq’s Agnès Maltais, who bows out after 20 years to represent the county, opens the door to a “renewal,” according to him.
