Union members locked out of the Bécancour Smelter will have less leeway in their actions in front of the factory.
At the request of the company, the court extended the injunction governing the presence of piqueteurs and has restricted their freedom of movement. And they will not be allowed to encroach on the lands of the company as they are tolerated up here.
And the security officers who stand guard in front of the smelter have been advancing 105 yards, and the union members to go back as much. On the other hand, the piqueteurs can get close to three feet rather than the five vehicles that crossed the picket line.
The workers ‘ union, intends to comply with the injunction renewed.
“It is a pity. We think that the employer should put his energy to return to the negotiating table. It would be much better to use than lose a debate about injunctions,” said Clément Masse, president of the union.
The presence of piqueteurs will, therefore, be permitted immediate entry to the access road to the smelter on a space that does not belong to Alcoa, but the Company of the industrial park of Bécancour.
“They have a right to unionization. They have the right to protest as long as it is done properly and that it does not prevent the fluidity (of the traffic in the industrial park),” says Maurice Richard, the CEO of the Company of the park.
