The storm predicted for the past few days has left up to 40 cm in certain regions of Quebec. Precipitation that began as snow gradually changed to freezing rain, in the night of Monday to Tuesday, leaving the ground extremely slippery.

Environment Canada has issued warnings for freezing rain in southern Quebec where we expect up to 15 millimetres in some areas, especially on the river valley of the St. Lawrence and the valley of the Ottawa river. The precipitation should gradually change to rain during the morning, Tuesday.
“The regions of Charlevoix at les Escoumins will experience the largest quantity of snow,” said Environment Canada, while the Capital-National and Mauricie could receive, in their turn, the ice storm Tuesday morning.
The winter storm caused by a low pressure system originating from Colorado, will pass through the province until Wednesday, at which a return to normal is expected, despite colder temperatures.
Caution
Tuesday morning, the commission scolaire de Montréal (CSDM) has announced the complete closure of its facilities following the storm: “All establishments, childcare services, child care facilities and the offices of the CSDM are closed for students and staff, with the exception of emergency personnel required. All courses in vocational training and adult education are also cancelled,” one can read on its website.
Because of this cocktail weather, several organizations have also put on standby for storm, as of Monday, inviting citizens to exercise caution. This is particularly the case of Emergencies-health, which called on motorists to be vigilant and to push the travel, non-essential.
“Road users should exercise caution and adjust their driving according to the conditions of the road. In addition, they should inform the road conditions on the different platforms of the Québec 511”, she said the ministry of Transport, ensuring that his teams will be hard at work to clear snow on the 32 000 km of roads under its responsibility.
The storm disrupts air traffic in Montreal
Two dozen flights in and out of Montreal were delayed or simply cancelled, Tuesday morning, at the Montréal-Trudeau airport because of the weather conditions.
Travelers are advised to check the schedule of their flight on the website of Aéroports de Montréal, or directly with their air carrier.
