The collective Failure to tax havens launches a new campaign to ask the federal government more “more ambitious and more effective” in the fight against tax havens.

“The government claims to put in place effective measures to fight against tax havens, such as participating in some actions of the Organization of economic cooperation and development. It must, however, implement measures far more ambitious, such as those initiated by many countries following the revelations of the Panama Papers, and which have been recovered to date $ 500 million of unpaid taxes,” said Denise Byrnes, executive director of Oxfam-Québec and a member of the collective Failure to tax havens, in a press release.

Thus, the collective, which brings together several organisations and unions, has launched on Thursday a new website, www.vraiessolutions.com where he invites the public to contact directly the office of the prime minister Justin Trudeau, the minister of national Revenue, Diane called to order and the minister of Finance, Bill Morneau and ask for “firm measures to really put an end to tax havens”.

“It is thanks to the mobilization of citizens and in being present in the public space that we will succeed in securing commitments convincing”, stressed Samuel Elias Lesage, coordinator of the collective.

According to a survey carried out by the firm SOM in November last year, nearly 80 % of Quebecers wants government to do more efforts in the fight against tax havens.
