A woman in a critical condition after an assault

    MONTREAL – A 22 year old female is in critical condition after having been assaulted in the night of Sunday to Monday, in the borough of Ville-Marie in Montreal.

    The police were alerted at about 2 a.m. by several calls indicating that a man was beating a woman on the ground, at the intersection of rue Sainte-Catherine and Amherst.

    When officers arrived on scene, they found the victim conscious on the ground, with significant injuries to the head and face.

    The young woman was transported to hospital in a critical condition. There are fears for his life.

    Witnesses were able to identify the suspect who attempted to flee. The 29-year old man was arrested and transported to an operational centre where he will meet the police in charge of the case. He could face charges of aggravated assault.

    The relationship between the victim and the suspect have not yet been established.

    The Sainte-Catherine street has been closed, street, between Amherst and Wolfe, to allow investigators to analyze the scene and understand this event.
