Non-response by liberals on the pot and tax havens

    OTTAWA, The Trudeau government has been careful to avoid answering questions about the millions of dollars from the tax havens invested in the pot legal in Canada.

    At the resumption of the work of the Chamber on Monday, the Bloc québécois has urged the liberals of questions, wanting to know if the federal government would ensure that there is complete transparency as to the ownership of the producers of cannabis and the source of their funding.

    “Our priority is to protect the health and safety of Canadians. It is for this reason that the draft law [legalizing pot] is a priority. The current approach ultimately doesn’t work. It has enabled criminals to make profits and it has not managed to keep cannabis out of the hands of children. The draft law on cannabis will create a legal framework to strictly to control the production, distribution, and sale and possession of cannabis in Canada, ” replied the minister, Ginette Petitpas Taylor in the Room.

    She gave much the same answer to all the questions.

    Last week, the Bureau investigation has revealed that at least$ 165 Million from tax havens have been invested with producers of cannabis allowed. This raises fears of experts and the opposition that the organized crime happening in these countries where the accounting records are obscure for recycling of criminal money in this lucrative industry.

    The minister of Health has lifted on three occasions in the Room on Monday to answer questions about tax havens. However, the Finance minister and the Revenue minister were both present.

    Last Friday, the deputy, Bill Blair, responsible for the issue of cannabis, admitted to the Newspaper that the money in tax havens can finance the industry of pot legal, but that he deferred to the safeguards already in place to ensure that organized crime will not benefit.
