OTTAWA | The federal government refuses to disclose almost all of the correspondence he has had with Netflix prior to the signing of the agreement is controversial between the two parties.
The professor, UQAM Jean-Hugues Roy has attempted to obtain under the Law on access to information, all the e-mails exchanged between Heritage Canada and the american giant of the entertainment.
The goal, he said in a telephone interview, was to understand why Ottawa has chosen not to require that Netflix picks up the GST.
However, canadian Heritage has cancelled no less than 90% of the approximately 730 pages of e-mails received by Mr. Roy.
“This is unacceptable, plague professor of journalism. In my opinion, it shows that the government is ashamed of the agreement with Netflix.”
Mr. Roy argues that Canadians have a “need to know” why Ottawa decided to subtract Netflix to the GST. He also complaint in order “that at least a portion” of e-mails heavily censored to be made public.
