Goal pushed back: 20.6% of canadians still don’t have a family doctor

QUEBEC – The number of Quebecers who are still without a family doctor, at 1 628 332, representing approximately 20.6% of the entire population.

The 85% target that had been set for the 1st of January last was missed by 440 380 patients.

This objective has, however, been postponed to April 2018, said the minister of Health, Gaétan Barrette, Wednesday morning.

The regions where it is more difficult to get a family doctor are Nunavik, Montréal, Montérégie, Laval and the North Shore.

People with a family doctor according to each region:

• Nunavik: a 2.95 %
• Montreal: 65,8 %
• Montérégie: 75,8 %
• Laval: 76,6 %
• North Shore: 77,9 %
• Ottawa: 79,5 %
• The laurentians: 79,5 %
