Good seedling is the key to a rich harvest, reports Rus.Media. Talk about what fertilizer to feed the seedlings and how to do it properly to achieve maximum results.
It is believed that the best fertilizer for seedlings should contain the complex of nutrients that are important for full development of plants: nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium (e.g., drug NPK contains equal amounts of these elements). However, fertilizing seedlings simple fertilizers (that is, contain one of the elements) is effective in the case of lack of a particular element.
The seedlings are fed early in the morning in not very hot weather. When fertilization should not be allowed to fall on the leaves or stems of the plants, – it may cause burns.
Nitrogen fertilizer for seedlings

Nitrogen promotes protein formation, production of chlorophyll. The main signs of nitrogen starvation: the lower leaves begin to turn yellow, the plant stops growth. If you notice any of these signs, feed seedlings in one of the following fertilizers:
ammonium nitrate (contains 34-35% nitrogen);
the ammonium sulfate or sulfate of ammonia (containing 20.5% nitrogen);
urea contains 46% nitrogen);
ammonia water (containing 16-25% nitrogen).
The most effective feeding in liquid form. Watering seedlings fertilizer allows nutrients to reach the roots faster plants, which means that the result will be achieved faster than when using granulated drug.
Typically, the concentration of fertilizer for seedlings in 2 times less than for Mature plants (average of 1-2 tablespoons of dry product per 10 liters of water). A couple of hours before fertilizing the plants watered at the roots (if earthen dry) 1-2 hours gently loosen the soil.
Read more about how and when to feed certain vegetables, see below.
Phosphorus fertilizer for seedlings

Phosphorus takes part in the synthesis of carbohydrates, “responsible” for the normal development of the root system. If phosphorus deficiency the leaves and stems of the plants begin to darken to purple-crimson color. Over time, the leaves become deformed and fall off. The most popular phosphate fertilizers:
simple superphosphate contains 15-20% of phosphorus);
double superphosphate (which contains 50% of phosphorus);
ammophos (contains 50% of phosphorus);
diammonium phosphate (contains 50% of phosphorus);
potassium metaphosphate (contains 55-60% of phosphorus oxide);
phosphate fertilizer (contains 20% phosphorus);
bone meal (contains 15-35% phosphorus).
If the seedlings do not have enough phosphorus to feed it, for example, simple superphosphate: 3-4 g of drug is dissolved in 1 liter of water and watering the seedlings at the root.
First feeding is carried out only after the plant is rooted, the optimal time to initiate feeding – after the pick. Regardless of the type of fertilizer, spacing, making the dressing should be at least 7-10 days.
Potash for fertilizing seedlings

Potassium helps to absorb carbon dioxide, which contributes to the production of beet sugar, strengthens the immune system of the plant. Typical symptoms of potassium deficiency: lower leaves appear chlorotic spots, new leaves grow small, the edges of the leaves “rust”. Traditionally used the following potash fertilizers:
potassium sulfate or potassium sulfate (containing 50% potassium);
magnesium or sulfate of potassium and magnesium (contains 30% potassium);
monophosphate potassium (containing 33% of potassium); potassium nitrate (containing 45% potassium).
First potash fertilizing of seedlings is carried out in the phase of 2-3 true leaves (7 to 10 g of potassium monophosphate in 10 liters of water). The second time fertilizers are applied 10-14 days after picking or transplanting into the soil (dosage is the same).
That the plant will develop harmoniously, alternate fertilization with mineral and organic matter and fertilizer for seedling growth (growth stimulants type Kornevin, IAA, EPIN, Zircon, sodium HUMATE, etc.).
What kind of fertilizer to water the seedlings of vegetables?
To vegetable seedlings grew healthy and normally developed, it is necessary to regularly fertilize. Depending on the culture, makeup of a vegetable has its own characteristics.
Fertilizers for tomato seedlings and pepper
As already mentioned, the choice of the main element feeding depends on what substances are not enough plant. For the harmonious development of the seedlings of tomato feed according to the following scheme:
1st feeding: with the appearance of the third true leaf using liquid fertilizer for seedlings, for example, Agricola or other complex preparations with a predominance of nitrogen.
2nd feeding: 11-12-th day after the pick make NPK (1/2 tablespoon per 5 liters of water, 100 ml per 1 plant).
3-feeding: 2 weeks repeat the introduction of NPK in the same proportions.
4th top dressing: when seedlings will be 2 months, spend a potassium-phosphorus fertilizer (1/2 tbsp. of superphosphate and 1 tbsp. of ash per 5 liters of water, flow rate of 1/2 Cup per 1 plant).

The scheme of feeding pepper seedlings:
1-feeding: in the phase of the first true leaf make a urea solution (1 tablespoon per 10 liters of water).
2nd fertilization: after 3 weeks, re-make nitrogen fertilizer.
3rd fertilization: 7-10 days before transplanting seedlings into the ground, fed by double superphosphate or other nitrogen-containing drug (you can repeat the urea).
Fertilizer for cucumber seedlings
In the seedling period, the cucumbers are fed twice. For the first time – in the first true leaf stage, the second time in 2 weeks. For feeding apply fertilizer complex:
1 tsp of urea;
1 teaspoon of potassium sulfate;
1 tsp. of simple superphosphate;
10 liters of water.
10-12 days after the second fertilizing seedlings are planted in the ground. Fertilizer when planting seedlings should have a stimulating growth effect. For this purpose, suitable ammofoska (in each hole, pour 1 tsp. of the drug).
Fertilizer for cabbage seedlings
Scheme for correct feeding of cabbage seedlings available:
1st top dressing: 7-8 days after the pick, make a solution of poultry manure (ratio 1:20).
2 fertilizing: a week before planting in the soil of cabbage seedlings fed with a solution of superphosphate and ash (1 tsp mixture and 2 tsp. of ash per 1 liter of water).
Fertilizer when planting cabbage seedling in soil is also necessary. The soil is dug up and make a 2 tbsp. l. superphosphate, 1 teaspoon urea, 1 bucket of humus or compost per 1 sq. m.
Fertilizer for flower seedlings

The first time I fertilize the seedlings flowers a week after picking. Then repeat the feeding on a weekly basis. Apply solutions of complex mineral fertilizers (Kemira, nitrophoska, Vertica, etc.), alternating with organic matter (e.g., infusion of mullein).
Homemade fertilizer for seedlings
Fertilizer for seedlings, home-made – affordable way to feed the plants, if no store products. To your attention the most popular people’s recipes.
1. Banana fertilizer for seedlings. A three-liter glass jar sterilized, then put into it the peel 3 or 4 bananas, pour 3 liters of boiled water and insist 4-5 days. Then the infusion is filtered. Before applying fertilizer diluted with water 1:1. The stock solution is stored in a jar up to 1 month. This food contains a lot of potassium and healthy tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, cabbage, eggplant.
2. Onion fertilizer for seedlings. 1 Cup of onion peel pour 10 liters of water and bring to a boil. The broth is cool and infuse for several hours, then filtered and watered the seedlings at the root. Onions not only rich in nutrients but will also help in the fight against fungus and insects.
