15% of couples of childbearing age seek treatment for fertility problems, according to a study of Inserm and the agence de la biomédecine. This consultation occurs, generally, after long months or even many years, of failed attempts. Several solutions are possible: hormonal treatment, in vitro fertilization, surgery or artificial insemination.

Researchers in new zealand have compared the efficacy of these different techniques and have shown that the intra-uterine insemination with ovarian stimulation, is an effective alternative to in-vitro fertilization. The conclusions of the research are published in The Lancet.

More births with intrauterine insemination

The study took place between may 2013 and may 2016. Two groups of patients were created. 101 women received intra-uterine insemination and a simulation of the ovary, the other 100 have received recommendations from the clinic : the need to have sex at the time of ovulation and keeping a calendar with the dates of the reports and ovulation.

The evidence for the scientists that this method is safe and effective for women who have fertility problems.
