NASA showed the new Martian panorama that was created from images from the Mars Rover Curiosity
Pictures were taken October 25, 2017, when the weather on Mars was nice and clear, writes the New Atlas, reports Rus.Media.
This weather has allowed the Rover to examine the topography of the Gale crater, the rim of the crater, and even take a picture of the mountain, which is located at a distance of over 80 miles away.
In NASA noted that the white balance in the photographs has been adjusted so that the colors of the mountains and the rocks looked the same in daylight on Earth. In addition, NASA experts have processed these pictures and glue them in the panoramic video.
Images were taken of the area, which is called the spine of Vera Rubin. In fact, the Mars Curiosity Rover is shown in the photo the route over the past five years: from the landing site to Yellowknife Bay and up to the crossing of the dunes of Bagnold. On the background of the photos show mount sharp and the Gale crater, which, according to Curiosity when there was a giant lake with conditions suitable for life.
“Despite the fact that Curiosity is steadily rises for five years, this is the first time we were able to look back and see that the Rover passed below us,” says one of the participants of the project Curiosity Ashwin vasavada.
In 2012, when Curiosity made a soft landing in a settlement point of Gale crater, the calculated lifetime was one Martian year (686 earth days). However, the robot still works.
