The STM will receive two trains’AZUR for free

The Société de transport de Montréal (STM) will receive two trains AZUR more to compensate for the delays of delivery from the manufacturer.

The transport company will have a fleet of 54 trains rather than the 52 expected, under an agreement confidential with the Bombardier-Alstom consortium.

“This is very good news, welcomed the president of the board of directors of the STM, Philippe Schnobb. We will have received all of the trains as provided for in the contract by the end of 2018.”

Instead of paying a penalty for having delivered two years late the first trains, the consortium will give in exchange for two vehicles. In 2015, the late fee amounted to $11 million.

A train’AZUR is worth about $ 21 million. The penalty would therefore be approximately $ 42 million. To this day, 35 trains were transferred to the STM.

The announcement was made Monday in the framework of a presentation of the capital program of the STM to the finance Committee of the City of Montreal.

Other stations accessible

The programme 2018-2027 of the STM is also planning to make available universally to all subway stations by 2038.

Montreal already has 13 stations available, in addition to the station Bonaventure where there is still some work to be completed. From 2019, six new stations will be under construction to be equipped with elevators, or Jean-Talon, Jean-Drapeau, McGill, Place-des-Arts, Jolicoeur and Angrignon.

The stations Honoré-Beaugrand and The College will also lift this year.

An ad for the 300-bus
