A group of academic experts from across Quebec want to review the model of environmental governance in Quebec. They will meet Tuesday morning, to Montreal, to present their proposal.
Since the fall of 2017, a movement of reflection on the model of environmental governance in Quebec is organized. Led by the Institut de l’énergie Trottier (IET) and the Institute du nouveau monde (INM), the project “The climate, the State, and we” will be launched at 10 a.m. at Polytechnique, at the initiative of 24 scientists in quebec.
“Having seen the difficulty of Québec to achieve its objectives in terms of sustainable development and fighting climate change, as well as the cost of this failure, they wanted the Québec adopted a governance model capable of meeting these challenges,” one can read in a press release of The INM.
Among the ideas that will be discussed, the experts will propose the establishment of a ministerial committee involving all the ministries involved in the fight against greenhouse gas emissions, but also the creation of an agency to coordinate the fight against CO2 emissions and actions, and finally the establishment of a committee of independent experts to ensure the effectiveness of the measures.
An online platform, moderated by the NIE, will be put in place Tuesday to allow the public to have their say and share their ideas.
