In addition to attracting the mockery of the international, the prime minister of Canada Justin Trudeau has made a fool of in the House of commons on Tuesday for remarks seen as overly feminist.
At a public meeting in Edmonton last Thursday, which was held in English, Mr. Trudeau has corrected a citizen for his use of the term “mankind” (literally, the race of man). “We prefer to say “peoplekind” (literally, the race of the people), not necessarily “mankind”, because it is more inclusive”, he said.
Since the lady, a representative of the World Mission Society Church of God, had started his question with a long discourse on the power of women and the divine aspect of the mother’s love, it is not clear if the prime minister was trying to make a joke or if his remarks are to be taken seriously.
The office of the first minister revealed that it was a blink of an eye, and that the intervention has been taken out of context.
Critical
That’s not a problem, the video of the exchange became viral, and the critics were not slow to come to the place of Justin Trudeau.
In a question about the costs incurred by their journey at the Aga Khan, the conservative member of parliament Lisa Raitt has mocked the prime minister on Tuesday. “Is it that the prime minister will make a person of him by doing the right thing and reimbursing expenses?” she started. The chosen one has thus replaced the phrase “to man up” (be a man of self) by the “person-up” (make a person self).
Foreign media have also seized on the case.
The british journalist Piers Morgan spent Tuesday a column in the “Daily Mail”, where he castigates the canadian prime minister to get it pushed, it seems, the rhetoric of feminist to the extreme.
“There’s always a moment where someone tries so hard to be part of a movement that he became a perfect idiot of political correctness,” he wrote in a long text.
The american tv show Fox & Friends, morning favorite of the republican chairman Donald Trump, has also made her revel in the controversy. The animators are back on the words of Justin Trudeau by interviewing a professor of psychology at the University of Toronto Jordan B. Peterson.
“Quite a performance… I’m afraid that our prime minister is able to advance his ideas than on rails ideological very close,” said the well-known commentator on the right for some of his positions antiféministes.
