Caroline Mulroney said Friday that if she became premier of Ontario, it would use the billions of dollars in savings to the government to offset its opposition to the carbon tax.

A Candidate for the leadership of the progressive conservative Party of Ontario, Mrs. Mulroney had already indicated that it does not approve of the carbon tax provided for in the platform of his party.

During a public appearance Friday at the Manning Centre in Ottawa, Caroline Mulroney explained how she had to replace the $ 4 billion of anticipated revenue from carbon taxes to finance the tax cuts promised by his party.

“The liberals waste money for 15 years. Recently, the auditor general reviewed a total of 14 government programs in Ontario and has found billions of dollars spent unnecessarily. I am convinced that we will be able to offer a program that will make life more affordable in Ontario, and which will not add to the tax burden of Ontarians,” said Ms. Mulroney, whose remarks were reported by the “Globe and Mail”, Friday.

Before the resignation of the head of the training policy Patrick Brown at the end of January, the program of the progressive conservatives projected revenues of $ 1.3 billion in carbon taxes in 2020-2021, and $ 2.4 billion in 2021-2022.

The other two candidates for leader of the party, Doug Ford and Christine Elliott, were also opposed to the provincial tax on carbon, which came into force on 1 January 2017.
