BÉCANCOUR | Alcoa has indicated, by way of a letter sent last Friday to the member caquiste Nicolet-Bécancou, Donald Martel, to have the intention to resume dialogue with the union of its 1000 employees in lock-out at the Bécancour Smelter (ABI).

Mr. Martel had, a few days previously, arrested the parties, to invite them to renew the dialogue.

In his letter, the president of Alcoa Canada, Jean-François Cyr, says, “it is ready to receive proposals that would change fundamentally the relations between the union and the company,” said the mp.

The company had expressed orally his intention to the minister of Labour during a meeting in Quebec.

This changes after a month of lock-out is well received at Bécancour. “The positive point of it is that I have the impression that ABI does not want to close his factory. This is very important”, said the mayor Jean-Guy Dubois.

The conciliator who takes care of the case had immediately called the parties last Friday. We are still waiting for is that it fixed the time and place of a resumption of talks.
