    Dear Valerie,

Allow me to call you Valerie, and even te tu because if we met, I am convinced that this is what you would do spontaneously!

Some say that the female solidarity is important; I am. However, this solidarity cannot be the synonym of convenience. It must be this desire to see another succeed, even if the criticism is invited… Valérie, on November 4, 2017, I sincerely wished for your success! And, even if you had to win against a man for whom I have a lot of respect. But I confess that, at the end of your first 100 days at the helm of Montreal, I have some concerns. As well, in all honesty and solidarity, I would tell you.

I can perfectly understand that since your arrival in this position, you do discovered unpleasant, that ultimately the surprises are more often in your daily life that you hoped. However, from my perspective, you seem to have forgotten to put the population of your board. You give me the impression of having thought that the strong mandate you have given the people of Montreal gave you carte blanche. Error.

It is necessary to return quickly to the heart of the meaning of your political commitment, transparency, candour and above all, it is necessary that you accept your decisions. You’re the mayor now!

I know that I am not in your shoes; but I don’t think I’m wrong in saying that many of us in the wake of your election to nourish hopes. I really thought joie de vivre was to contribute to mitigate the climate of cynicism that corrodes our political life. Once at the head of the largest city of Quebec, I was hoping to see you show the path of light of the policy. Not one of broken promises or one of the pictures proven… I thought you were going to help to give letters of nobility in this vocation that is so devalued today!

The policy, it’s like a race to the bottom; it is impossible to cheat, the citizens will eventually see it… And the good news is that you are a good runner bottom! Then, there is hope. But, a small caveat, however: a warrant with the mayors of the related cities unhappy, very tiring, believe me… 🙂

That said, it is a pity, but it is always more serious when a girl makes mistakes. We attack more spontaneously and one gives more easily question its legitimacy, or its jurisdiction. It is unfair, you know and I know! Then, assume the better your decisions, and let yourself deceive you. But always be honest with yourself and with those you have trusted.

And last thing: the most important thing: continuing to run and never let the policy you rot life. Take care of yourself and good luck for the rest of Montreal.

    Caroline St-Hilaire
