TORONTO – The cell phone of a passenger on board an Air Canada flight caught fire Thursday morning, which delayed the vol.

The incident happened shortly before the takeoff of flight AC101 of an air carrier from Toronto to Vancouver, at 7 pm, at the Pearson airport.

“The cell phone has started to burn. The fire was immediately extinguished by the crew members and the plane was not damaged,” pointed out Isabelle Arthur, a spokesperson for the airline in a statement.

The person “has suffered injuries and has been taken care of by the emergency services that are occurring on board the aircraft. [She] was able to leave the plane, but we do not know his current status,” added Ms. Arthur.

A spokesperson of LG Canada has indicated to the Global network News that the company was aware of the incident while ensuring that the safety of consumers and products was a top priority”.

A Toronto city councillor who was on the flight was greeted on Twitter with the speed and professionalism of the staff on board.

I happened to be on the @AirCanada flight this morning where the cell phone fire incident occurred. The Air Canada staff were quick and professional in their response and the Pearson Fire crew were excellent. Thanks all around.
