MAGOG – A great virus disrupts the past few days the computer system of the City of Magog in the eastern Townships. Fortunately, the personal data of the users have not been stolen.
This, however, are several services offered by the municipality who have been affected, some administrative software.
“It is not a rançongiciel, to the extent that no information or personal data has been stolen, but as an example, employees have, since last Friday to enter some information by hand as they did several years ago whereas usually it was made of a quasi-automatic manner thanks to our software,” explained Claudia Fortin, head of communications at the City of Magog.
Of the problems noted by the employees
Many employees were recognized at the end of last week that something unusual was happening with the computer system. “Several employees were experiencing particular difficulty in receiving or sending emails in their inbox,” said Ms. Fortin.
Although the computer equipment of the municipality have not been damaged, it technicians as well as experts from two firms specializing in computer security are working to resolve the persistent problems. The municipality believes it can restore its computer system in the course of the next few hours or next few days.
