The police of Laval announced Wednesday have put the hand in the collar of a couple suspected of having committed a dozen break and enters and thefts in the shops of several cities of the province for the past two years and that the value of the property stolen amounts to more than two million dollars.

Evens Riodin, 38 years old, and Gabrielle De Morasse, 30 years old, were arrested last week and appeared at the palais de justice de Laval, under the charges of breaking and entering, conspiracy and possession of stolen property.

The couple from Saint-Lin-Laurentides would have been particularly active in the greater Montreal region for the month of October 2016. One of the crimes alleged against the two suspects took place on the night of 19 August, at the Bay stores from the Carrefour Laval.

A dozen suitcases were found in the parking lot, so the couple had to depart precipitously at the edge of a cube van rented after having been surprised by the security officers of the shopping centre.

The subsequent investigation was able to link Riodin and Morasse 10 other thefts using the same modus operandi in five other cities, Longueuil, Montreal, Saint-Lin-Laurentides, Gatineau and Terrebonne.

“The group targeted businesses on a large surface such as the SAQ, Bureau en gros, Best Buy and some pharmacies. They forced the entrance for the night and were taking the leak with a truck rented to carry their loot elsewhere,” informed the police of Laval, in a press release.

Nearly twenty police officers participated in the search of 22 February, which allowed us to find, in a warehouse in Montreal, the articles related to the flights.

The investigation is still ongoing and further charges could be brought against the couple.
