DRUMMONDVILLE – A young driver was pinned in his vehicle, under a vehicle of the ministry of Transport (MTQ), on hwy 20 west to Drummondville, Centre-du-Québec, Saturday morning.
The accident occurred around 4: 40 a.m., Saturday. A pick-up truck of the MTQ was travelling at low speed on the left lane, in search of debris.
“Everything indicates that the signals of the vehicle were based, said Daniel Thibaudeau, spokesman for the Sûreté du Québec. The at-fault driver crashed into the back of the truck of the MTQ and found itself embedded below.”
The jaws of life were needed in order to root out the young man, aged twenty years, of his automobile. He was transported to the hospital for serious injuries, but we aren’t afraid for his life. The employee of the MTQ has not suffered any injury.
The Sûreté du Québec has been asked to conduct blood tests to determine the bac of the driver. In addition to alcohol, the speed could also be involved.
The accident caused the complete closure of the hwy 20 west to the height of the output of the Chemin du Golf, Drummondville.
This event happens barely a week after a similar accident, where a driver in a drunken state had caused a collision with the workers of the MTQ, on a site of highway 20 in Dorval. One of them, Stéphane Lebel (44 years old), was killed and six other people were injured.
The funeral of Mr. Lebel should also take place this Saturday, according to TVA Nouvelles. The driver who would be responsible for his death, Vincent Lemay (38 years), is facing 16 charges, including impaired driving causing bodily harm.
