SALABERRY-DE-VALLEYFIELD | A fire which broke out in the evening, Wednesday, in a centre for elderly people Salaberry-de-Valleyfield has forced the evacuation of dozens of people.
According to a spokesperson for the Coopérative ambulance technicians de la Montérégie (CETAM), no one was injured during the disaster. “We have four units, eight are paramedics, who are on-site […] It is there as a preventative measure,” explained Julien Sauriol.
The fire originated shortly before 21 h at the centre Victor-Léger, which hosts semi-autonomous, and in loss of autonomy. The hotel has 103 rooms, but the number of people residing there and had to be evacuated was not known with precision at the end of the evening.
The fire, however, was quickly contained, said the Sûreté du Québec to 21: 30, less than an hour after the fire has taken birth.
The evacuees were transported to the hotel Plaza Valleyfield to be housed temporarily.
