A festival of cannabis will take place in the Bas-Saint-Laurent on the weekend of July 1, 2018, the date on which the pot will be legalized.

The group behind this initiative has announced its color by creating a page Facebook, but without revealing the exact location of the festival or the programming.

One thing is for certain, it will take place in the Bas-Saint-Laurent.

The organization wants to reserve the dates from 30 June to 2 July 2018 to provide the first festival of the cannabis in Quebec, which aims to raise awareness and educate the public on the benefits of the plant both to human health and the planet.

One of the missions of the festival is also to educate the population about the medicinal properties of cannabis, and raise awareness about the responsible consumption of cannabis as a recreational.

The scheduled date for the legalization by the Trudeau government is 1 July 2018. It is, therefore, to say that it will happen during the night of Saturday to Sunday of the festival, whose program will be announced next spring.

    Education especially

The one who co-founded the environmental festival ÉchoFête Trois-Pistoles, activist Mikael Rioux is among others behind this initiative.

“We are there because this plant has virtues as much therapeutic for the health of the planet. We always talk about not even anything that is recreational. We know that there are going to be “poteux” that are going to come to the festival, but this really isn’t it that one wants to put forward,” says Mikael Rioux.

If there are kiosks on the cannabis recreational users, they should focus on the responsible way of consuming, especially for a first time.

There will also be some political elements. “We would like to promote the fact that the way in which the development is taking shape, with megs greenhouses gigantic, this is not the best, one rather finds that the best model for this would be that of co-operatives in the regions of Quebec”, adds Mikael Rioux.
