The decision of the Group Valcartier Calypso to ban topless in its water parks makes consensus far beyond its customers after a survey which revealed that over 80% of Quebeckers are in agreement with the position of the company.
The survey was commissioned the firm Leger Marketing for the Group Valcartier Calypso itself. “We wanted a shot of the external probe that would be done in full transparency. These data come lend credibility to the opinion that had been expressed to our customers last week,” said Louis Massicotte, president of the group comprising the Valcartier Vacation Village, Bora Park, and Calypso.
Strong majority
In total, 82% of Quebeckers who support the Group’s decision Valcartier Calypso to ban topless in its amusement parks. When we look only among women, the figure increases to 90%.
“We have not taken this decision for modesty, or according to any moral order, we have simply chosen to listen to our customers and the survey comes to confirm the decision”, adds Mr. Massicotte, which argues that a contrary position would have been against the offer of entertainment of the sites. “We offer water parks, but also theme parks with mascots and characters. It would not be framed at all.”
The president believes that these figures will put the debate aside for “a little time”. And he welcomed the fact that scientific data are now available to different agencies if the discussion returned to the agenda. “I think this poll can remain in the reference, because it reflects the true opinion of the population as a whole, believes Louis Massicotte. This will be a record documented important.”
Question who is talking
The debate on the naked breasts in public was back in the news in mid-July when a woman from Cornwall in Ontario, has filed a complaint with the Court of human rights against the municipality that prohibits this practice. Another complaint against the park Calypso had brought the issue up at the Village Vacances Valcartier, owned by the same group.
While the matter was tremendously good publicity, the management of the Group Valcartier Calypso had made the decision to maintain the ban. The Combination of water parks in québec (RPAQ) has supported this decision and has forwarded the same directive to its members.
