A man of 69 years died Saturday afternoon after a boating accident at the 120th edition of the regatta Rideau Ferry, near Smiths Falls, a hundred kilometers of Ottawa, reported the Ottawa Citizen, Sunday.
The accident occurred at about 14 p.m. on the lake Lower Rideau. The man, a native of Minnesota, was part of the race when he was ejected from his hydroplane after it overturned on him, has explained to the Ontario provincial Police.
Badly wounded, he was transported to the hospital where his death was recorded.
The police have opened an investigation to shed light on this accident. An autopsy will also be performed.
In the course of this competition, which each year attracts more than 50 boat owners and antique hydroplanes can reach speeds of over 160 km/h, depending on the site of the event.
