THE CEDARS | A vehicle was found submerged in the St. Lawrence river, in Les Cèdres, in Montérégie, in the middle of the evening on Thursday. The authorities at first feared that people could be inside, but eventually it was nothing.

Firefighters boarded a zodiac to get close to the vehicle, of which only the roof was visible from the path of the River, according to the Sûreté du Québec (SQ).

“This is a witness who reported the presence of the vehicle in the water,” said Daniel Thibodeau, a spokesman for SQ.

“Fortunately, there was nobody in the car. We attempt to contact the owner of the vehicle to try to determine what happened. An investigation is underway,” said Mr. Thibodeau, to the effect that a towing operation was to be put in motion soon.

The path of the River had to be diverted between the paths of Saint-Dominique and Saint-Emmanuel, to allow authorities to do their job.
