MONTREAL | The snow has barely finished falling on the south-west of Quebec that, already, Quebecers can expect additional rainfall, this time in the form of ice.
According to Environment Canada, between 2 and 5 mm of freezing rain are expected from the Ottawa river to Quebec city, via Montreal, the Montérégie, the Laurentians, Lanaudière, Mauricie, the eastern Townships, the Beauce and Centre-du-Québec.
“For Montreal, we talk to two, three, maybe four mm to the maximum,” said Simon Legault, a meteorologist with Environment Canada, noting that the freezing rain should begin around 16 h or 17 h. “The most significant quantities are expected to fall in the north of Lanaudière and Laurentides, from Saint-Sauveur, in the amount,” he added, in an interview with the QMI Agency.
The snow, however, could mingle with the ice, which complicates the estimation of precipitation.
On the side of Quebec, the freezing rain will begin during the evening and continue into early night. The ice will also affect the Bas-Saint-Laurent, the Gaspé peninsula and northern New Brunswick, as and to the extent that the depression from the United States will move to the east.
Saturday, another depression hit Quebec, leaving in his wake a dozen centimeters of snow in Montreal and a little bit less in Quebec.
Snow
However, Quebecers living in the east of the province and in the Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean can expect to receive a new dump of snow of 15 to 20 cm. This snow will be accompanied by blowing snow, said Mr. Legault.
“The snow associated with the system will win the centre-du-Quebec this afternoon and the eastern regions later in the evening. The rapidly accumulating snow could make travel difficult in some places. The visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow,” pointed out Environment Canada.
This notice is valid for the regions of Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean, La Tuque, la Manicouagan, Baie-Comeau, Sept-Îles and Minganie.
Return of the sun
After the end of the week greyish, Quebecers can expect a beautiful start of the week, in the normal season,” said Simon Legault.
According to him, the sun will be at an appointment from Monday to Wednesday, with maximums ranging from -5 °C at the beginning of the week to more than 0 °C on Wednesday and Thursday.
A new depression will make its debut on the Quebec Thursday, but it is still too early to determine how much rainfall is expected, or what form they will fall.
