Agapi-napavalley was considered a day of household chores. According to an old tradition, this day was to treat the poor or the orphans, people who are deprived of destiny.

Folk festival “Agafi-policlinic” is celebrated on 5 February (old style – January 23).

On this day the Orthodox Church commemorates the saints of the Holy Martyr Clement, Bishop of Ancyra, and Martyr Agathangelos. Agafangel is a male name of Greek origin meaning “Good messenger”. Him in Russia were mainly monks.

Other names of the holiday: “Agati”, “Agaronnik, Day, Agafya,” “Paulinus the Merciful”. Agafangel and his teacher, Bishop Clement was martyred during the persecution of Christians under the emperors Diocletian and Maximilian. Torture repeatedly subjected Agafangel and Clement, even the Gentiles-the audience was shocked. After the co-Regent Maximilian died, a Martyr Agafangel put to death through beheading, and later killed and Clement. The saints entered the history of Christianity as one of the most patient and humble sons of God.
