An “orphan of the Duplessis” who felt insulted by the compensation than $ 15 000 offered by the government wants to bring a collective action on behalf of victims of abuse during the Great Darkness.
“In his mind, [the compensation] was a slap in the face ; whereas, the childhood horrible that he has lived, the amount offered is an insult,” writes lawyer Alan Stein, in a court document filed at the courthouse of Montreal.
The civil lawsuit, brought by Marc Boudreau, calls instead for 875 000 $ for each child victim not only of abuse, but that would also have been used as a human guinea pig “in order to enrich the Quebec government and the catholic Church” in the 1940’s and 1950’s.
He continues to State, but also of the religious congregations in Montreal, Baie-Saint-Paul and Quebec city, among others.
Abuse
Mr. Boudreau, who is at the head of the movement, explains in the court document to be an ” orphan of the Duplessis “.
At the age of 5 or 6 years, Mr. Boudreau says he has been placed in orphanages and psychiatric institutions, even if there were no mental health problem.
During her stint in a monastery, he is said to have been struck repeatedly to the point of almost losing an eye. At other times, he would have been forced to wear a straitjacket.
“It has been used as guinea pigs in horrific experiments, in which the forced administration of drugs, sleep deprivation, and sessions of electroconvulsive therapy,” says the court document.
“Until 18 years old, his life was a hell on earth “, shows the demand for collective action.
These events, which have not yet been proven to the court, it would have caused significant injuries. Mr. Boudreau claims to have trouble trusting others, in addition to being unable to have a healthy relationship.
“While others are able to feel and freely express their love for their loved ones, Mr. Boudreau is unable to live the feeling of love,” laments the lawyer in the lawsuit.
Support
Mr. Boudreau is seeking compensation for himself, but also for all the other “surviving” Duplessis orphans “. And it has the support of the Committee of the Orphans who are victims of abuse.
“We hope very much that he wins, it supports his initiative,” said Lucien Landry of the Committee.
Mr. Landry reminded that if the abuse and misconduct sexual do talk a lot in the media, this was 25 years ago that the battle of the “Duplessis orphans” had begun.
The congregations contacted by The Newspaper did not wish to comment on.
