Apple in 2018 will begin to pay Ireland 13 billion euros

News 6 December, 2017

The government of Ireland will begin to recover from Apple’s 13 billion euros in 2018.

In August 2016, the European Commission has decided that Ireland was illegally granted Apple tax breaks, with the result that the budget fell short of 13 billion euros. The European Commission has ordered Apple to pay this amount to the state.

At the same time, the Irish Finance Minister Pascal Donohue said that they do not plan to claim this amount from the company, despite the ruling of the European Commission. Apple also appealed the Commission’s decision in court, but the court decision has not changed.

In October, the European Commission has threatened the Irish government that will serve them a lawsuit in the European court and impose sanctions. In response, the government came to an agreement with Apple and created an escrow Fund, which will be transferred funds.

First revenues from Apple, the Irish government expects in the first quarter of 2018.
