Scientists using a telescope “Kepler” discovered an exoplanet that is perhaps the largest and most dense” of the currently known supertall, reports Rus.Media.

Astronomers discovered the star GJ 9827 in the constellation Pisces three SuperCell. The researchers found that GJ 9827 b with radius 1.64 radius of the Earth weighs about 8.2 times more of it.

In turn, small GJ 9827 has a mass of about 2.5 mass of the Earth, and the largest in the system of GJ 9827 d – 3.8 Earth masses (although these values are established with large errors).

But if for d it clearly points to the similarity with puffy gas giants, and, for c, with the rocky planets, GJ 9827 b is one of the most dense super-earths known today.

The figures leave open the question of its form, structure and the presence of a dense shell of volatile gases – and that scientists have yet to figure out.
